Catia Freitas
I am a marine biologist and a PhD student at Deakin University, investigating the current marine science teaching practices targeted at the primary school levels in Australia. I also love stories, especially those about the ocean and that is why I’m looking at how to use children’s picture books to teach young kids about the marine environment. My hope is to give children the opportunity to relate with meaningful stories to build a stronger connection with the ocean. I’m particularly fascinated about the Great Southern Reef, and my goal is to help raising awareness and protection of this valuable and endangered reef system in Australia.
