Redbird Ferguson

Redbird Ferguson is descended from Choctaw ancestors and European settlers of North America, and now makes Australia her home. She is committed to preserving and protecting Indigenous cultural knowledge and heritage for future generations. This commitment underpins Redbird’s work as a PhD candidate and AIMS@JCU scholarship recipient at the James Cook University Nguma-bada campus in Cairns. Her research focuses on bringing together Indigenous Knowledge systems with western science to improve cross-cultural approaches to managing Sea Country. Redbird believes that understanding the world around us and our connections to the past is the key to our future success and survival.
