Andrea Asunsolo Rivera

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Marine Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS) in La Paz, Mexico, and a Master of Biological Science from The University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia. Over the past 10 years, Andrea has gained extensive field experience across a range of marine science disciplines, with a particular focus on reef fishes and sharks. She is currently undertaking a PhD at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, in partnership with Biopixel Oceans Foundation. Her research investigates the effectiveness of large marine protected areas in conserving highly mobile shark species by identifying essential habitats, such as foraging areas, assessing whether these habitats overlap with highly protected zones, and quantifying the time sharks spend within marine protected areas along Australia's east coast and the Coral Sea.
