Julie Jakoboski
Dr Julie Jakoboski is an oceanographer at MetOcean based in Raglan, New Zealand, where her focus is on obtaining ocean observations for Aotearoa’s public use and assimilation into ocean models as part of the Moana Project's Te Tiro Moana ("Eyes on the Ocean").
Julie received her PhD in August 2019 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in Physical Oceanography where she studied ocean circulation around the Galápagos Archipelago using autonomous underwater vehicles (Spray gliders). She has a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and in Physics at Bucknell University in the United States.
As the Team Lead of Te Tiro Moana – workstream for the Moana Project, Julie is directing the deployment of the Mangōpare temperature and depth sensors, and with the goal of obtaining measurements from New Zealand’s oceans to better inform the public on changing ocean temperatures. Bringing her skills in observational oceanography data and ocean models, Julie will guide the Moana Projects data component to improve the availability of ocean measurements New Zealand-wide.
